1997-2003 Chevrolet Malibu Engine Air Filter Replacement

Replace or clean (if applicable) the engine air filter every 12,000 miles to keep your vehicle running smoothly.

  • The air filter housing is located on the driver side of the car.
  • Loosen the four housing screws on the plastic air intake box.
  • Do not try to remove these screws from the intake box, as they are not designed to be removed.

  • Loosen the hose-clamp on the air intake tube located on the side of the air intake box.
  • Remove the air intake tube from the intake box.

  • Gently lift the top off of the air intake box.

  • Remove the air filter from the housing and inspect it.
  • If it can not be cleaned, then it should be replaced with a new one.
