2006 Ford Mustang Brake Light and Taillight Replacement
If your brake/tail light on your 2006 GT Ford Mustang isn’t illuminating and needs to be replaced, use this guide to replace the lightbulb.
The brake/tail light illuminates when the headlights are turned on to create visibility for drivers behind you during the night or adverse weather conditions. A burned out lightbulb will be very dim or not illuminate at all. This can present danger to yourself and other drivers, or just get you a hefty ticket from law enforcement, so use this repair guide to restore safety and legality to your vehicle.
Before using this guide make sure that your brake/tail light is actually not illuminating.
The car should remain turned off for the duration of the repair!

Step-by-step instructions
- Unhook the trim on the side of the trunk near the lights.
- Remove the three 11 mm bolts from the side panel with your 11 mm socket.
- Remove the side panel.
- Disconnect the gray light connectors.
- Carefully pop the tail light off.
- Turn the taillight upside down and unscrew the burnt out bulb to remove it from the assembly.
- Screw the lightbulb back into the bay in the assembly.
