2009-2013 Mazda 3 Cabin Air Filter Replacement

Before taking out your 2009-2013 Mazda 3's cabin air filter, make sure you've got the right replacement filter. If you're not sure, go to a nearby car parts store like Autozone or O'Reilly's Auto Parts. They will help you find the correct filter. This replacement's is difficulity is moderate, but with correct filter and a phillips head screwdriver you're all set for an easy and cost-effective upgrade to your Mazda 3's air quality.

  • Correctly identify and purchase the cabin air filter for your 2009-2013 Mazda 3 model.
  • If needed, visit your local car parts shop for help buying the cabin air filter.

  • Remove the panel under the middle console by pulling from the bottom and then from the top.
  • It is on the passenger side of your vehicle.

  • Remove the black panel under the passenger-side dashboard by unclipping the two tabs,
  • Unclip by pushing on the tabs.

  • Remove the two 2 mm Phillips screws securing the bottom of the filter housing.
  • Pull the tab at the top of the housing cover to remove it.
  • Handle filter housing parts gently.

  • Pull out one of the two air filters.
  • The second filter, located on top of first filter, should fall into the same place as you remove the first one.
  • If the second filter doesn't fall, reach it and gently remove it.

  • Insert the new filters into the slots.
  • The wide side of the air filter goes last.
  • Position the first filter on top.
  • The first filter should fit and stay on top. It might take a few tries.
  • Ensure the second air filter fits tightly underneath the one on top.

  • Place the housing cover back in position.
  • Tighten the two screws to secure the cover.
  • Handle filter housing parts gently.

  • Position the black panel under the passenger side dashboard.
  • Clip the two tabs back into place by pushing on them to secure the panel.
  • Align the side panel back under the middle console.
  • Secure the panel by pushing it back into place from the top and the bottom.
