Volkswagen Key Fob Battery Replacement

Volkswagen key fobs come in many different shapes and sizes but there are only two ways to replace their battery. Mine is the easiest of the two. For this you will need no tools, however a spudger might come in handy in dislodging the battery.

Identification

  • There are two main key fob models when it comes to repair.
  • If you see this shiny pin it means it’s the easiest of the two.
  • If this is not the case, the other iFixit [guide|62152|guides|new_window=true] on Volkswagen key fobs deal with the other replacement method.

Opening

  • Pull from the small plastic square in the direction of the arrow to release the casing.

Swap the battery

  • Insert a [product|IF145-002-4|spudger|new_window=true] or a pointed object inside of the marked ledge to help release the battery.
  • Replace the battery and congrats!! You are done.
