2009 Toyota Corolla Headlight Bulb Replacement

Use this guide to replace your 2009 Toyota Corolla headlight bulb! This car model is well known among those who are new to driving. Car maintenance can be a daunting task for someone with little or no experience, which is why it is important that there is accessible knowledge to easily learn how to perform simple tasks such as this.

A replacement bulb fit for the model of the car will need to be purchased.

  • Wear gloves to avoid getting hands covered in engine grease.
  • Unlock the hood of the car by pulling the release located at the bottom-left side of the steering wheel.
  • Make sure to watch your hands for certain hazards, parts of the car may be sharp or hazardous.

  • Open the hood and lock it in place.
  • Find the bulb near the inside of where the headlight is on the car (it should be located somewhere within the red circle). It will be attached to a wire.
  • Rotate the bulb until it becomes free and pull it out of the headlight casing.

  • Press and hold the button illustrated in the photo and pull the bulb apart from the wire. If the button is jammed, a screw driver may be necessary to press the button down with more force.
  • Be careful not to snap the bulb part from the connector when working to pull it out of the cable.
  • By now, the bulb should be separate from its container.

  • Replace old bulb with new one by simply sliding it back onto the cable.

  • Install the new bulb back into the headlight casing by turning clockwise until it is firmly connected as shown in the picture. Close the hood of the car.
  • Remember to realign the grooves on the bulb to match the connection with the headlight casing.

  • Turn the car on and test your new headlight!
  • If the headlight doesn't work, turn car off and ensure the connection is correct with the headlight cable.
