Disconnect the battery
- Pop the hood.
- Disconnect the ***negative*** battery terminal.
How To Disable the Oxygen Sensor (O2) Dash Light in a 1989–1994 Isuzu Amigo or Pickup
Follow this guide to remove the bulb from the O2 sensor warning light on the dash of a 1989–1994 Isuzu Amigo or Pickup equipped with a tachometer, to disable/turn off the light forever.
The oxygen sensor warning light permanently illuminates after 90,000 miles. It being on does not mean you need to replace your O2 sensor; it's just a reminder, although O2 sensor replacement every 90,000 miles is a good recommendation. It will continue to illuminate after oxygen sensor replacement.
The proper procedure to turn off the light is to move a screw on the rear of the instrument cluster from one hole to another to reset it. Then, the light will re-illuminate at 180,000 miles, and the process is repeated.
An easier solution is to just remove the bulb that illuminates the O2 sensor light. This does not require unscrewing the speedometer cable from the back of the cluster.
Note: Some emissions testing requires proof that the light is functional in order to pass a smog check. Some testers will check if the light illuminates at key-on. If it doesn't, you risk not passing. Keep that in mind before you take apart your dash.

Unhook the speedo cable
- Locate the sheathed speedometer cable. It runs along the firewall, at the back of the engine bay.
- A malleable metal tab (green) holds a white plastic lock section (blue) of the speedometer cable in place.
- Pry up the metal tab and unlock the speedometer cable, so it has slack and can shift back and forth.

Unscrew the cluster surround
- Inside, use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the cluster surround in place.

Detach the cluster surround
- Adjust the steering wheel tilt to the lowest setting.
- Pivot the bottom edge of the cluster surround out towards the steering wheel.
- A row of clips holds the cluster surround in place along the top edge.
- Pull the surround straight out. Keep in mind that it's still connected with cables on either side.

Disconnect and remove the cluster surround
- Pinch and disconnect the two button connectors on either side of the cluster surround.
- Remove the cluster surround.

Unscrew the under-dash cover
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the four screws securing the under-dash cover.

Remove the under-dash cover
- Some alignment clips along the upper edge hold the cover in place.
- Pull the under-dash cover straight out and remove it.

Remove the upper cluster screws
- Use a Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the two screws holding the front of the cluster in place.

Remove the lower cluster screws
- Two more screws secure the cluster from the underside, and they can be difficult to access. Lay down on your back, looking up at the steering column.
- Focus on the yellow marked areas.
- Use a long-shank Phillips #2 screwdriver to remove the two screws securing the bottom of the cluster.
- Once loose, these screws might get caught on various bits under the dash. Take your time to locate them if they fall.

Slide the cluster out
- Slide the instrument cluster out, slowly. Rotate it, pulling the left side more than the right.
- The bulb is on the left side.
- The cluster is still connected with the stiff speedo cable and other connectors. Proceed slowly.
- Continue pulling the cluster out, pulling the speedo cable slack you made earlier through the firewall.
- Stop just when you can stick your hand behind the left side.

Remove the O2 sensor bulb
- Use your fingers to gently twist and remove the O2 sensor bulb.
- The O2 sensor bulb is the third from the left (or, third from the right when facing the back of the cluster).
