2002-2006 Nissan Altima Tail Light Replacement

  • Make sure the vehicle is parked and turned off before starting the repair process.
  • Open the trunk to access the rear taillight assembly.

  • Locate the carpet or interior trunk lining covering the taillight's back.
  • Use a pry tool to carefully remove the plastic studs or clips securing the carpet lining.
  • Gently pull the lining back to expose the taillight assembly and wiring.

  • Disconnect the taillight wiring.
  • Locate the electrical connector attached to the back of the taillight assembly.
  • Press the release tab and carefully unplug the connection.
  • Detach any plastic clips that are holding the wiring harness in place so the wires can move freely.

  • Remove the securing nuts.
  • Using an 8 mm wrench or socket, carefully remove the nuts that hold the taillight assembly in place.
  • Set the nuts aside in a safe location so they are not lost during the repair.

  • Release the rubber grommet and loosen the assembly.
  • Carefully detach the rubber grommet from its support hole.
  • Once it is loosened, gently shift the taillight assembly to separate it and prepare it for removal from the vehicle.

  • Remove the taillight assembly and disconnect the harness.
  • If it is still attached, disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the assembly.
  • You may also replace any burnt-out bulbs before installing the new unit, if needed.

  • Connect the wiring harness to the new taillight assembly.
  • Take the new taillight assembly and plug the wiring harness into the correct connector.
  • Make sure the connection is secure and fully seated so the light will function properly once installed.

  • Position the new taillight assembly.
  • Carefully place the new taillight assembly into the opening on the vehicle.
  • Align it properly with the mounting points and ensure the rubber grommet is correctly seated in its support hole before securing it.

  • Secure the taillight assembly.
  • Tighten the 8mm nuts to firmly hold the new taillight assembly in place.
  • Reattach any plastic wire clips to secure the wiring harness and ensure everything is stable and properly positioned.

  • Reconnect the electrical connection.
  • Plug the taillight wiring connector back into the vehicle’s electrical port.
  • Make sure it clicks securely into place so the connection is stable and allows the taillight to function properly.

  • Reinstall the trunk lining.
  • Carefully place the carpet or interior trunk lining back into position.
  • Reinsert and secure the plastic studs or clips to hold the lining in place, making sure everything is properly fitted and flush against the trunk area.
