If your 2020 Toyota Corolla is struggling to start, making a rapid clicking noise when you turn the key, or experiencing unexpectedly dim headlights, use this guide to replace the 12V battery.
The 12V battery provides the initial electrical power needed to start the engine and runs the vehicle's electronic accessories, like the radio and lights, when the engine is off. A degraded battery will lose its ability to hold a charge over time, which can eventually leave you stranded.
Before beginning this replacement, ensure your vehicle is parked on a flat surface with the engine completely turned off and the keys removed from the ignition. Automotive batteries contain hazardous acid and are quite heavy, so lift with caution. When [removing power/disconnecting batteries], always disconnect the negative (black) cable first and reconnect it last to avoid causing dangerous sparks or short circuits.
Finally, do not throw your old battery in the trash. Take it to a local auto parts store, mechanic, or recycling center for proper device disposal to safely recycle the lead and acid.
To reassemble your vehicle, follow these instructions in reverse order. Ensure the battery tie-down bracket is snug, and remember to reconnect the positive (red) terminal before reconnecting the negative (black) terminal.
